About the Manatee Pocket Project
Martin County's natural beauty and access to major waterways attracts thousands of sport and recreational boaters to our area year round.
To protect the environment and encourage boaters to enjoy all that Martin County offers, the Martin County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) announces plans to establish a mooring field at Manatee Pocket in Port Salerno, located at the intersection of the St. Lucie River and the Intracoastal Waterway.
Mooring fields offer permanent structures for boaters to secure their vessels and provide an organized and secure way to protect boats as well as shore side infrastructure.
Additionally, our rivers and waterways, rich in aquatic habitats such as sea grass communities, nourish and provide safe harbor to a variety of aquatic life. Mooring fields and the use of mooring buoys have become an accepted tool in reducing the negative impacts of anchoring on seagrass beds and coral reefs.
