History

The Historic Log Cabin was originally built in Stuart with its first recreational activity being a dance on November 24, 1936. Community and school events, card games and meetings of civic groups were often held at the log cabin, including the establishment of the local Girl Scout Troops in December 1937, Kiwanis' charter in May 1938 and organization of the Stuart High School band, which began in September 1938.

By the 1970s, however, many people thought the Log Cabin had lost its usefulness. In March 1971, $1,000 was paid for the disassembled Log Cabin in order that it might be preserved.

After about eight years, with assistance from Vince Bocchino and a crew of workers, the structure was meticulously reassembled in Langford Park in Jensen Beach and was completed by November, 1981.

Since that time, the Log Cabin has been a focal point of Jensen Beach and the Martin County parks system, even before the department was formed. The Cabin also housed the Council on Aging of Martin County until their own facility was built in 2011.
