Senior Programs

Martin County Parks and Recreation provides recreational programming for seniors ages 50 and over Monday through Friday at the Log Cabin Senior Center, located at 2369 NE Dixie Highway in Jensen Beach.

Activities include a variety of free classes such as fitness, life skills, bridge, art, yoga and more! View the program descriptions below.

Stay Active

Session 4 | January 8 – April 29; Mondays, 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.: Adults 50 and older can attend FREE Tai Chi for Arthritis sessions at the Log Cabin Senior Center. Tai Chi has been shown to improve flexibility, balance, muscle strength, pain relief, and more! 

This FREE program was made possible through the Supporting Healthy Aging Through Parks and Recreation (SHAPR) Grant, a grant from National Recreation and Park Association with funding from the Centers For Disease Control (CDC).

This 60-minute strength training chair class will begin with a light cardio warmup, followed by weight bearing exercises for the entire body, and will conclude with stretching. Bring water and sneakers.

This 45-minute class uses weights and your own body weight to target all of the major muscle groups. Bring water and sneakers.

Join Carol in this 45-minute class to help with muscle loss, bone strength and mobility. Using resistance bands, balls and stepper.  Modifications given and supplies provided. Bring a bottle of water.

Join Carol for this 45-minute class to strengthen your muscles, improve your mobility, balance, and flexibility while reducing the strain on muscles, joints, and bones. Bring a bottle of water.

Recommended props to bring to class: yoga block or yoga strap

Enjoy fun dances performed in a group to music, a repeating sequence of steps while arranged in one or more lines or rows. Bring water and wear closed toe shoes.

Spark Creativity

Every Tuesday: Come explore your creative side and share your ideas with new and old friends during this impromptu session. Whether you are a beginner or simply want to practice painting, drawing, or sketching with others, this is the place to be. No supplies are provided.

April 3: Please join Vicky and Joe from Village Arts and Crafts Loft. Arts and Crafts to include painting, ceramics, wood working,

April 5, 19 & May 1: Always wanted to learn how to play the ukulele or guitar? It’s never too late, to learn.  Music stimulates the brain and enhances the memory. Must bring own ukulele and guitar for lessons. (Call to register).

April 24: The Kentucky Derby is an event unlike any other! Come and create your own Kentucky Derby Hat. Bring your feathers, florals, tissue paper, chiffon and embellishments to create your own unique hat. Hats will be provided to decorate. Please call to reserve your seat.

Fun & Games

Whether you want to play, learn, or just have fun come to the Log Cabin Monday - Friday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. to play Scrabble, JENGA, Chess, Checkers, Dominos or form Bridge, Mahjong, Pinochle, Poker, Euchre, Hand & Foot, Canasta Groups. All card games welcome.

Enjoy an hour of BINGO. Bingo cards provided.

Join in this game played with dominoes. The object of the game is for a player to play all the tiles from his or her hand onto one or more chains, or trains, from a central hub or "station".

Bring your favorite crossword puzzle to the next level with Giant Crossword!

Players use the Wii Remote to mimic real-life bowling actions on the television screen. Play solo or in groups.

Mahjong, a traditional Chinese tile-based game of strategy and skill, is enjoyable and hugely popular. Bring your Mahjong card and tiles. Beginners are welcome. 2024 card needed.

Catch up with friends playing a game of Chinese Mahjong. Chinese Mahjong players engage in a dynamic interplay, drawing from their expertise and intuition to make calculated moves and devise winning strategies No card needed.  

Join in on this fun game that incorporates math, strategy, interaction with others, and problem-solving. Bring your cribbage board.

Socialize & Network

April 8: Join us for reading some of the latest books. Come and discuss this month’s book “Magnificent Lives of Ordinary Things” written by Alice Hoffman. Call to reserve a book.  Limited supply.    

April 10: Celebrate Frances Langford’s Birthday with movie “Dixie Jamboree” and popcorn. A 1944 movie starring Frances Langford. Celebrating her birthday April 4. Please call to reserve a seat.

May 1: Come socialize and make new friends in your fancy Kentucky Derby hat! Enjoy array of delicious teas, finger sandwiches, and pastries.  Please call to reserve a seat.

Know & Learn

April 10: Please join Terrico Poteate, Council on Aging of Martin County at the Kane Center as she informs the general pubic about programs offered to our seniors. Free lunch. Call Frank, Kane Center at 772.834.4236 to RSVP.

April 12 & 26: Free Nutrition class! Each week samples of easy exercises, challenges and solutions to shopping and cooking, a recipe and sample of an easy, healthy food, and handouts on healthy eating. Call to reserve a seat.

April 15: Join us for a special presentation, Julia Frances Newbern-Langford was an American singer, actress and very supportive to our community.  Please call to reserve a seat.

April 17: Please join Marty Jacobson in an engaging discussion on the Seniors Vs Crime Project whose goal is " to reduce the
