Overview

Martin County Parks and Recreation offers free recreational programs for seniors ages 50 and up, Monday through Friday at the Log Cabin Senior Center, located in Langford Park at 2369 NE Dixie Highway in Jensen Beach. 

Join us for a variety of engaging classes including fitness, art, yoga, and more. View the activities schedule and program descriptions below to find what interests you!

Program Descriptions

A Moment of Zen

If you are looking for a new form of self-care or way to improve your mental health, meditation could be a great addition. Join us to relax your body and mind.

Forever Fit

Join Carol in this 45-minute class to help with muscle loss, bone strength and mobility, using resistance bands. Modifications given and supplies provided. Bring a bottle of water.

Line Dancing

Enjoy fun dances performed in a group to music, a repeating sequence of steps while arranged in one or more lines or rows. Bring water and wear closed-toed shoes.

Mindful Movements

Join Carol for this 45-minute class to strengthen your muscles, improve your mobility, balance, and flexibility while reducing the strain on muscles, joints, and bones. Bring a bottle of water. Recommended props to bring to class: yoga block or yoga strap.

Tai Chi for Arthritis

Adults 50 and older can attend free Tai Chi for Arthritis sessions at the Log Cabin Senior Center. Tai Chi has been shown to improve flexibility, balance, muscle strength, pain relief, and more!

Tone it Up (Chair)

Join us in this 60-minute full body toning workout to boost strength, balance and momentum.  Please wear sneakers and bring water.

Total Body Workout

This 45-minute class uses weights and your own body weight to target all the major muscle groups. Bring water and sneakers.

Walk this Way - indoors

Join us for a walking workout indoors during the summer months. Whether you’re a beginner or adding variety to your routine, this workout is easy to follow with low-impact movements and a steady pace. Walking is one of the best ways to improve health, get your steps in and stay active.

Walk with Ease

This program is designed to encourage people to start walking and staying active. It will include stretching, strengthening exercises and motivational strategies. Meet at Indian Riverside Park on Tuesdays in front of the splash pad and Thursdays meet at Langford Park Log Cabin Senior Center (see calendar for exact times). Please wear sneakers and bring water.

Workout with Weights

This 60-minute strength training chair class will begin with a light cardio warm-up, followed by weight-bearing exercises for the entire body, and will conclude with stretching. Bring water and sneakers.

Art is Everything

Come explore your creative side and share your ideas with new and old friends. Whether you are a beginner or just want to practice painting, drawing, or sketching with others. Supplies not provided.

Village Arts and Crafts Loft with Vicky 

Join Vicky Yatsko for a special arts and crafts project. Have fun and get in touch with your creative side!

Book Club Discussion — The Mango Tree 

Join us for reading some of the latest books. The Mango Tree written by Annabelle Tometich.  Please call to reserve a book.  Limited supply.

Knots & Needles

Knitting, crochet and needle point enthusiasts come and join us. Share your ideas with new and old friends in this impromptu session. Supplies not provided.

Reader's Theater

Join us for a fun afternoon bringing out your inner actor or actress, in this impromptu style of theater. Scripts are read aloud to tell a story, using their voices, facial expressions and gestures to bring the story to life. No memorization or prior theater experience required.

Sound Bowl Meditation

Come and relax by listening and feeling the vibration of crystal bowls. Please call to reserve a seat.

American Mahjong

Mahjong, a traditional Chinese tile-based game of strategy and skill, is enjoyable and hugely popular. Bring your Mahjong card and tiles. Beginners are welcome. Current year card needed.

Chinese Mahjong

Catch up with friends playing a game of Chinese Mahjong. Chinese Mahjong players engage in dynamic interplay, drawing from their expertise and intuition to make calculated moves and devise winning strategies. No card needed.

Cribbage

Join in on this fun game that incorporates math, strategy, interaction with others, and problem-solving. Bring your cribbage board.

Giant Crossword

Bring your favorite crossword puzzle to the next level with Giant Crossword!

Learn to Play Bridge

Have you always wanted to learn to play Bridge? Join the beginner group to learn the rules, the Bridge language, and just have fun learning something new.

Bridge

Enjoy an afternoon of playing Bridge with new and old friends. Please bring Bridge cards.

Mexican Train Dominoes

Join in this game played with dominoes. The object of the game is for a player to play all the tiles from his or her hand onto one or more chains, or trains, from a central hub or "station."

Musical Bingo

Music bingo is a fun and exciting take on the classic game of bingo. Instead of marking off the numbers that someone calls out, you'll listen to music samples and mark them off. Call to reserve your seat.

Open Table Play

Whether you want to play, learn, or just have fun, come to the Log Cabin Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to play Scrabble, JENGA, Chess, Checkers, Dominos, Poker, Euchre, Hand & Foot, Canasta. All card games are welcome.

Ping-Pong (Open Play)

Indoor ping pong combines skill, agility, and coordination. Whether you're a beginner or a pro, there's always room to improve your skills in a table ping pong game and have a blast while doing it.

Artificial Intelligence 101 with Martin County Library — An intro course with the Martin County Library about artificial intelligence: its uses, functions, and dangers. 

Confused about what Artificial Intelligence is? What is machine learning? Learn about some of the core ideas and concepts behind AI, exploring some of its most exciting applications and opportunities! Spots are limited, please call to reserve a seat.

Council on Aging of Martin County Congregate Meal Site

Thinking about joining the Council on Aging of Martin County Congregate Meal Site Program? Please stop in and meet with Frank Jackson, Meal Site Supervisor, to learn more about the program and its benefits.

Stop the Bleed with MC Fire Rescue

Josh Jenkins is a state certified Fire Safety Inspector, Fire Life Safety Educator II, and a Nationally Registered EMT at Martin County Fire Rescue Dept. He will discuss how to assess life-threatening bleeding, and what to do about it, based on where the injury is. This class is exciting! It’s essentially first aid, but the focus is on bleeding emergencies. Please to reserve a seat.

Treasure Coast Food Bank — Healthy Changes Nutrition Class 

Join the Treasure Coast Food Bank, Nutrition Educator, Rachel Dennis. Participants will look at examples of real-life scenarios to determine how to make small improvements towards a healthier life.

Ukulele Lessons

Always wanted to learn how to play the ukulele? It’s never too late to learn. Music stimulates the brain and enhances the memory. Instruments not provided. Prior registration required. Please call to reserve a seat.

Vocal Expressions — Learn to Sing 

This program will teach you to carry a tune. It's a lot of fun and will help give you a sense of confidence and new skills.

WISE Program, presented by Martin County Human Services — celebrating the positive aspects of aging, meeting new people, and learning how to stay healthy in their senior years.

This four-week program covers:

  2. March 16th — Aging Sensitivity: The Biological Changes & Our Individual Perspectives on Aging
  3. March 23rd — Beyond the Doctor’s Office: Medications, Substance Use, & the Older Adult
  4. March 30th — Let’s Celebrate: Valuing Diversity & Redefining What Aging Means to You
