What are ACEs?

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are traumatic events that occur during childhood. The more ACEs a child experiences, the more at-risk they are for health, social, and economic problems later in life.

However, the effects of toxic stress can be significantly reduced by:

  • Caring adult mentors
  • Access to nutritious food
  • Access to counseling
  • Substance use prevention
  • Nurturing interaction with parents
