Utility Customers: semi-annual free chlorine maintenance

Martin County Utilities, the City of Stuart, and South Martin Regional Utility (SMRU) are temporarily changing the method of chlorinating potable water to ensure the future safety of the water. Utility water users may notice an unusual chlorine taste or odor in their tap water through January 18, 2026.

The hydrant flushing during this period may cause the water to become cloudy and discolored. This is a temporary condition and should not last more than a few hours. We apologize for any inconvenience you may experience during this time. Please keep in mind that this is necessary to provide safe drinking water to our customers.

These temporary conditions are not harmful to utility users’ health. Customers on kidney dialysis should consult their physician and tropical fish/aquatic animal owners should contact a local tropical fish store for advice. For questions, contact Martin County Utilities Customer Service at 772- 221-1434.
