What is Hazardous Waste?

Any material or substance that is potentially damaging to the environment and harmful to humans and other living organisms is considered a hazardous waste and should never be disposed of curbside.

If disposed of improperly, these products can contaminate our waterways and fragile drinking water supply, damage septic tanks and wastewater systems, and injure sanitation workers.

Martin County residents can bring hazardous waste to the Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Center for FREE disposal.

Tuesday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Wednesday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Thursday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday: 8 a.m. to Noon
Sunday: Closed 

*Closed on legal holidays.

Acceptable Item(s)

Acetone, furniture strippers, lubricants 

Fluorescent lamps & bulbs

Aerosol cans

Gasoline, flares, propane tanks

Batteries of all sizes (including ones for cars & boats)

Mercury-containing devices

Cleaners, acids

Paints and paint strippers

Cooking oil, used oil


Corrosives, pool chemicals

Pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, weed killers 

Electronics (i.e. TVs, cell phones, computers, printers)

Used motor oil, antifreeze


NO: sharps, needles, medications, tires, explosives, radioactive or biological materials, drums of any kind, or business waste will be accepted at the Disposal Center.

  • For prescription and medications disposal: Contact the Martin County Sheriff's Office at (772) 220-7000.
  • For small business hazardous waste disposal programs, call (772) 288-5700.


Residents may also bring their household hazardous waste to the HazMobile, which is short for Mobile Household Hazardous Waste Collection Vehicle. Its purpose is to provide residents with a safe and convenient way to dispose of household hazardous waste at specified locations throughout Martin County, in addition to the permanent than the Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Center.
