What is Hazardous Waste?

Household hazardous waste refers to materials that are toxic, flammable, corrosive, or reactive, which can pose risks to human health, wildlife, and the environment. Improper disposal can contaminate waterways, damage septic and wastewater systems, and pose risks to sanitation workers. Hazardous waste should never be disposed of curbside.
