Overview
The 1,000 Books before Kindergarten literacy program encourages parents to read one-thousand books to their child before they enter kindergarten. Reading together helps develop important pre-literacy skills that provide a solid reading foundation. Reading is key to school and learning success. Plus, sharing stories together is fun!
Read to your child every day:
From magazine and newspaper articles to books in preschool or library story time, all reading counts. Duplicate books count too.
Track what you read:
While all 1,000 Books before Kindergarten materials are freely available from 1000booksbeforekindergarten.org, tracking 1,000 books is easier through our Beanstack application.
Celebrate landmarks:
Every 100 books, parents are encouraged to post a photo of their child on social media with the hashtag #1000BooksB4K.
