In order to convert a private road to a County/public road, the roadway must be built to county standards first. Also, in order for a building permit to be issued for the construction of any structure, the lot must directly front on an open road. The Board of County Commissioners may grant a variance that allows building permits on a lot not fronting on an open road as explained in Section 4.843.K.1.c of the Land Development Regulations.
To convert a private road to a County/public road and/or construct an open roadway to County standards, click on the Road Opening Permit Application, complete the form, and submit it to the Development Review Division of the Public Works Department at 2401 SE Monterey Road, Stuart, FL 34996.
You may also submit online by clicking the "Request for Help or Information" button and attaching the form. Click on the Open Road Frontage Variance Application if it is determined that your lot meets the requirements in Section 4.843.K.1.c in the Land Development Regulations.
