What is Pickleball?

Pickleball is becoming a fan favorite across Martin County! With a smaller size court than a tennis court, players use paddles and wiffle balls to play a “doubles match” and hit the wiffle ball back and forth across the court.

Court Etiquette

Recommended Halpatiokee Park Pickleball Court Etiquette:

  • Good sportsmanship always (keep your temper, no abusive language).

  • USA Pickleball Association (USAPA) Rules to govern play.

  • Pickleball play only on pickleball courts.

  • Proper attire and footwear.

  • Do not play if courts are wet.

  • Scheduled Open Prime Time Play Daily: 8am to 2pm and 3pm to 9pm.

  • During Open Prime Time Play:

    • No league play, court reservations and/or private instructions.

    • All players rotate in on a first come first served basis.

    • “4 on 4 off” rotation, unless there are no paddles waiting.

    • Courts will be designated according to skill level:

    • Courts 1 to 6 – Beginner/Intermediate Level

    • Courts 7 to 12 - Intermediate/Advanced Level

    • Courts 13 to 18 – Paddle stacking play only

  • Paddle “stacking” will be used when any court use is at capacity. Use existing paddle holders on fencing to enter game rotation queue.
  • On all other days/times not designated as Open Prime Time Play, all players (singles and doubles) are limited to two consecutive games if players are waiting.

  • Wait until a rally is over and state, “come through” and walk briskly across one court to get to another court.

  • If a ball comes into your court, pick it up and return to the proper person. Do not hit it back. Likewise, if you hit a ball into another court, raise your paddle up so it is clearly known who the ball goes to.

  • When your game is over, do not walk behind another court while play is still going on. Wait until point is over, then ask to “go through”.

  • Do not call faults that occur on the other side of the net, unless asked to do so. It is the responsibility of the receiver’s side to make the line calls.

  • If a ball comes into your court from another game or if your ball goes into another court, stop play and say “Ball” loudly for all to hear. Play will stop and the point will be re-started.
