You LOVE our parks and we LOVE our volunteers! Join the Parks and Recreation department as a volunteer and help us make our fantastic events, facilities and programs even better, all while having fun working with a dynamic team!  We have a wide variety of volunteer tasks to suit your interests and abilities.

Parks and Recreation Volunteer Opportunities

Music at the Mansion Concert Series (Pending due to COVID-19): The community concerts will be the first Sunday of each month from Sunday, December 6, 2020 through Sunday, May 2, 2021 from either 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., or 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Indian Riverside Park. The volunteer position consists in helping with setting up and breaking down for the event, face painting, assisting in our Marketing booth and assist vendors at the event.

World’s Largest Swimming Lesson: The event takes place at the Sailfish Splash Waterpark in Martin County on Thursday in July 2021 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The volunteer position will assist with registration, providing families with goodie bags, and hand out certificates upon completion of the swim lesson.

Parks and Recreation Month: The event will take place at a county park on Saturday, July 10, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The volunteer position consists in helping with family games, registration table, marketing table, and help set up and breakdown event.

Fall Fest: The event will be on Friday, October 8, 2021 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at a county park. The volunteer positions consist in helping decorate the park in fall fun, assist with setting up and breaking down for the event, arts and crafts with children, field games, assisting with vendors, etc.

Senior Games: The event annually occurs during the last weekend in October through the first weekend in November. Various sports games from swimming, bowling, track and field, tennis, basketball, etc. take place throughout the county to help qualify for the State Senior Games. The volunteer position consists in helping out with a variety of sports in keeping score, timers for swimming, registration forms, helping with our vendor booths, and help set up and breakdown activities within each sport.

FPSA & FSHAA Swim Meets: The swim meets annually occur at the Sailfish Splash Waterpark during the last weekend in September (FSPA) and second and third weekends in November (FSHAA). The volunteer position consists in helping with timing each swimmer, gate attendants, volunteer booth, hospitality room, parking detail, etc. 

Winter Fest: The event will be on Saturday, December 11, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will be held at Indian Riverside Park. The volunteer positions consist in helping decorate the park in holiday cheer, assist with setting up and breaking down for the event, arts and crafts with children, field games, assisting with Santa Clause, etc. 

Parks Department: The parks department needs volunteers year-round to assist with cleanup of our county parks and beaches. Please inquire if interested, for more details. You would be shadowing a lead parks attendant at local parks and assisting in a variety of duties from trash pickup to painting. 

Parks Department office assistant: The Parks and Recreation Administration office would need a volunteer to assist with answering phone calls from the public on a variety of topics. The volunteer would be trained and prepared for basic public questions or concerns. In addition, the volunteer may be asked to file paperwork, create spreadsheets, research programs and activities, and assist with other office-related duties as necessary.

Parks Operations: Volunteer opportunities within the park operations division include mulching beds around our park entry signs, planting around our park entry signs, maintenance of our hiking trails, painting picnic tables and data entry.

Starter/Ranger – Sailfish Sands Golf Course:  The Golf Starter/Ranger is one of the most visible employees of the golf course.  This volunteer opportunity is tasked with providing customers with service regarding tee times, tee time coordination, rules and policies and pace of play. This volunteer is also responsible for assisting with accurate daily play totals and other duties as directed.  Due to the nature of the position, the golf starter must be pleasant, but firm at the same time. This volunteer is supervised by the Golf Course Manager/Head Golf Professional and works closely with the Golf Shop Staff, Course Maintenance Staff and the Outside Services Staff daily.

Golf Cart Attendant – Sailfish Sands Golf Course:  This volunteer opportunity must be able to work closely with Starter, Golf Shop Staff and the Golf Course Manager/Head Golf Professional.  The volunteer must greet the guests and members when they arrive at the course with a smile and a positive attitude.  Primary responsibility falls on service to members and guests, efficiency of club loading, cart cleanliness, staging and storage.  The volunteer required to be a highly self-motivated individual who can work with minimal supervision and interact with customers at a high level. This volunteer is supervised by the Golf Course Manager/Head golf Professional.
