Welcome to Coastal Engineering
If you swim or sun on Martin County's celebrated shoreline, boat along its rivers or fish its abundant waters, the work of the Coastal Engineering Department impacts your life.
Martin County's picturesque South Florida locale is home to over 21 miles of Atlantic oceanfront, and a wide range of salt and fresh water tributaries. Maintained shoreline and healthy, navigable waterways are essential to this area's recreational opportunities and marine and fishing industries. As our area's economy and population grows, it is vital that we address potential natural and man-made threats to our shoreline, inlets, rivers and estuaries. The Coastal Management Division has taken a proactive stance in working with a variety of public and private organizations to protect and preserve these precious natural resources.
We invite you to explore this site to find out more about our projects - which include everything from inlet dredging to beach renourishment to the creation of artificial reefs - and learn how they affect the quality of life for all of us, creatures great and small, living above and below the sea.
Surf the Surf! Check out the weather and wave conditions in real time with our live beach cams at Jensen Beach and Hobe Sound National Wildife Refuge!
