Includes a DNA testing service and on-line tutorials on genealogy topics. Private company with two offerings; a full-service one for subscribers at a monthly fee and a library-only search service available at your library branch. Family Search - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints internet genealogy service. Search LDS databases, including Ancestral File, Census, International Genealogical Index, Family History Web Sites, and more. Build your own family tree on-line. A free service. MyHeritage – Large full function Israeli genealogy web service with free software download and a wide range of features including wide search of records and many family trees plus multi-language capability. Initial capability is free but premium service available at a fee. |

Sites Castle Garden - Free database of millions of immigrants entering the country before Ellis Island opened (1820-1892). Digitized records from the original ship manifests. Searchable by name and date range. Cyndi's List - A portal to thousands of Internet genealogy sites, categorized and cross-referenced. Provides a good overview of the types of sites useful to genealogical research. Well-known, respected long-standing genealogy site. Find downloadable/printable genealogy forms at Genealogy Charts & Forms. Ellis Island - Search the passenger arrival records of Ellis Island New York (post 1892). Part of the American Family Immigration History Center. Free registration required. Dead Fred – Genealogy photo archive with searchable shared photos. Use a "search engine" to find "www.dearfred.com" in the search results. Then select it. Web page is being "hi-jacked". Find A Grave – Millions of cemetery records from around the world. Interment.net - Cemetery records browsable by country, state and county, as well as Cemetery News articles. Information about how to record a cemetery and guidelines for submitting transcriptions to the web site. National Archives - Provides online versions of its standard microfilm guides to census records, passenger lists, military records, etc. Includes microfilm reel numbers to facilitate borrowing. Nationwide Gravesite Locator - Burial locations of veterans and their family members in national and state veterans cemeteries. Information about burial and memorial benefits as well as obtaining military records and replacement medals. Newspaper Archive Sites – Chronicling America and FultonHistory contain digitized and indexed newspaper articles. rootsweb.blog - Gateway to RootsWeb.com. Supported by Ancestry.com. as the Internet's oldest and largest free genealogy site. RootsWeb hosts the popular ROOTS-L mailing list and Roots Surname List (RSL). An excellent tool for connecting to others doing genealogical research, it includes links to many personal family trees that may be searched for information and links to mailing lists, message boards and websites. SSDI: The Family Search.org version of the Social Security Death Index is presented in easy-to-read table format. Vital Records Information - Vital records information for each state, territory, and county of the U.S., with links to the appropriate governmental entity. Sites Google.com – Search engine that can find web-based information on almost any topic including genealogy-oriented sites related to specific sub-sectors (e.g., The Winthrop Society that publishes lists of early settlers to New England.) Excellent for finding specific information on people, locations and events or old books and publications. Wikipedia.org – Vast on-line encyclopedia for information on historical events, geographical locations, religions, famous people and more. |
| Genetic Services Ancestry.com – DNA analysis service specifically focused on recent ancestors and where they came from. May identify links to specific individuals. One service from the Ancestry.com organization. Family Tree DNA - DNA testing service selected to perform the public participant testing for the Genographic Project. Free information, monthly newsletter, scientific papers, recommended reading, as well as Surname, Lineage and Geographical projects. The FTDNATiP calculator allows two matching individuals to estimate the number of generations back to their Most Recent Common Ancestor. The Genographic Project - A five-year project, cosponsored by National Geographic and IBM, to record genetic information from different populations in order to map ancient human migration patterns. Members of the public are invited to participate by purchasing a DNA sample kit. Participants can access their information on the Internet with an anonymous ID number. |

U.S. Surgeon General's Family History Initiative - Free software (downloadable or web-based) from U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services for creating a family health history chart to save, print, or share with other family members.
