Martin County negotiated a new contract with Waste Management to invest in waste collection and disposal services. 2022 property tax bills will include a residential solid waste assessment of $389.69, which is an increase of $75.32 over last year for waste collection and disposal services. 


  • As a homeowner, you receive information about assessments related to your property.
  • The notice was provided to homeowners about a Solid Waste Municipal Service Benefit Unit (MSBU) that provides for waste collection and disposal services to single-family residential properties in unincorporated Martin County service areas.

  • The annual solid waste assessment is $389.69, which includes an increase of $75.32 from the prior year. 
  • It covers the period from October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2022.

  • The assessment is based on rates for collection, transportation and disposal of garbage and recycling for single-family residences.
  • The approved solid waste assessment is always included on your annual property tax bill that the Tax Collector will mail to you at the end of October or beginning of November.

  • The current waste disposal contract was up for renewal. The county negotiated and renewed with the current vendor, Waste Management. 
  • Contract highlights include:
    • Purchasing new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered trucks that are quieter with reduced emissions
    • Providing large 64-gallon, wheeled recycling carts
    • Increasing fleet and adding routes to enhance level of service
