CARES Act

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was passed by Congress and signed into law on March 27. Martin County is distributing CARES Act funds to help individuals, families and businesses impacted by the pandemic. CARES Act funds are also available to constitutional offices and municipalities for reimbursement of approved COVID-19 expenses.

Assistance Categories

Business Assistance

PLEASE NOTE: The Business Renewal Program is NOW CLOSED to new applications. 

The program was designed to help small businesses with $5 million or less in total gross sales or receipts with a maximum award of $20,000 per applicant, subject to funding availability.

ASSISTANCE:

  • Employee wages/salaries
  • Spoiled inventories
  • Commercial mortgage or rent payments
  • Utilities
  • Other expenses incurred due to new safety provisions related to COVID-19

Individual Assistance

PLEASE NOTE: Individual assistance through the Martin County Housing Program and the United Way Cares Program is NOW CLOSED to new applications.

Two programs were available:

Martin County's CARES Act Housing Program: Designed to meet the housing needs of low-income households in Martin County. Eligible expenses include rent and/or mortgage payments and certain emergency repairs, due to job loss, furlough or work hour reductions.

United We Care: Martin County's COVID-19 Relief Fund: Partnership between the county and United Way of Martin County. This program provides one-time assistance to support eligible Martin County residents with rent or mortgage payments and utility bills.

  • Rent/Mortgage Assistance
  • Utility Bill Assistance
  • Medical Bill Assistance
  • Certain emergency repairs due to job loss, furlough, work hour reduction, etc.

Nonprofit Assistance

PLEASE NOTE: The Community Partner Relief Program is NOW CLOSED to new applications. 

The program was designed to assist nonprofit agencies including nonprofit cultural facilities, nonprofit medical services providers, nonprofit veterans organizations and 501c6 associations impacted by COVID-19 are encouraged to apply for assistance to continue providing important services to individuals and families in Martin County.

Food Assistance

PLEASE NOTE: The COVID-19 Cares Food Relief Fund Program is NOW CLOSED to new applications. 

The program, managed through the United Way, assisted eligible nonprofits serving Martin County who were providing nutritious food and products to our community due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Fund prioritized those agencies with the capacity to store, process and provide food safely for our community. Assistance with the purchase and transportation of food were permissable expenses.

Municipal Reimbursement

Local municipalities may be eligible for CARES Act funds to help cover necessary expenses associated with the COVID-19 public health emergency. Funds may be used for additional safety precautions, personal protective equipment and other items related to providing service during the pandemic.

Constitutional Reimbursement

Martin County Constitutional Officers may be eligible for CARES Act funds to help cover necessary expenses associated with the COVID-19 public health emergency. Funds may be used for additional safety precautions, personal protective equipment and other items related to providing service during the pandemic.
