Hurricane Season: June 1- November 30 every year

Are you prepared for this year’s hurricane season? Check out our Hurricane Survival Guide In the Important Docs Box on the right for valuable and important information. You can also review Evacuation Routes and find your nearest Red Cross Shelter through the Menu on the right.

Tornadoes 101

If a warning is issued or if threatening weather approaches…

  • In a home or building, move to a pre-designated shelter area
  • If an underground shelter is not available, move to an interior room or hallway and get under a sturdy piece of furniture
  • Stay away from windows
  • Get out of automobiles and seek the nearest shelter
  • Do not try to outrun a tornado in your car, leave it immediately
  • If caught outside or in a vehicle, lie flat in a nearby ditch or depression
  • Manufactured (mobile) homes, even if tied down, offer little protection from tornadoes and should be abandoned.
