| Powers and Duties: |
It shall be the function of the Board to provide an ongoing process allowing public access to the planning, development, and programming of the County parks and recreation system. |
| How Appointed: |
The Board shall consist of 21 members (14 at-large members and 7 agency members). At-large members must be residents of Martin County. Agency memberships must be organizations that serve Martin County; representatives of those agencies may live outside of Martin County. All new members must attend Advisory Board Orientation. Agency representation may vary from time to time as recommended by the Advisory Board and approved by the Commission. Each participating agency may send a duly qualified member of their organization to the Advisory Board meetings. Membership of the Board must be approved by the Board of County Commission. The agencies represented are:
Tri-County TEC,
Martin County Sheriff's Office,
Council for the Arts,
School Board,
Tropical Trekkers of FL Trails Assoc.,
Marine Industries Assoc.,
Teen Advisory Board
NOTE: Per BCC action on 12/20/05, the Bylaws were amended as follows: the Tropical Trekkers of the Florida Trails Association and Marine Industries Association replaced the Economic Council of Martin County and the Council On Aging. |
| Terms: |
Terms for at-large members are three years. The agencies chosen to be represented on the Advisory Board will be reviewed by the membership at the regular January meeting each year. At that time, Agency additions or deletions may be made by majority vote of a quorum of the Advisory Board. Term limits for at-large members were removed from the Bylaws on 10/14/08. |
| Meetings: |
Regularly scheduled monthly meetings on the third Thursday of each month unless otherwise changed by the Advisory Board. Special meetings may be called by the Chairman. |
