Jensen Beach is a historic riverfront/ocean side resort community located in northern Martin County that is bounded by the Indian River Lagoon, and the Florida East Coast Railway. Proximity to Hutchinson Island, the Atlantic Beaches and the Indian River Lagoon, attract tourists and visitors which drives this community's economy. Redevelopment activities began for Jensen Beach as early as 1986.
The CRA district is distinctively defined on the south by the Town of Ocean Breeze Park, which is an incorporated mobile home park; and on the west by the FEC Railroad. The eastern boundary is the Indian River while the northern boundary is the Jensen Beach causeway.
Jensen Beach encompasses approximately 65 acres, with a collection of small, popular locally owned business and art galleries. Despite its relatively small size, Jensen Beach still has over 50% of its area vacant and ready for redevelopment.
The Indian River provides the obvious scenic amenity, as well as fishing, boating and water related opportunities. The railroad has the potential to provide future passenger traffic for both tourism and commuting.
Jensen Beach's unique history, small cottage businesses, dedicated residents, and its prime location on the Indian River, are the community's most significant assets.
The goal of the Jensen Beach CRA is to enhance the area's character which includes an eclectic, pedestrian-friendly community. The CRA envisions a continuation of the 'casual' Jensen Beach atmosphere which emphasizes a mix of uses, an active street life, Florida vernacular architecture, enhanced landscaping, and coordinated signage.
